I can't recommend Illinois. The place is an absolute mess both politically and financially and going to get worse before it gets better. Add Illinois to your list of must avoid places.

I'd say you are putting the cart before the horse. Find a job you like in a related industry like turbine manufacturing in an area that is not on your no list.

Stay out of New England. I watch house hunters all the time since I am going thru a move as well. I get sad when people spend $250k in Georiga somewhere and get a mini mansion. I spend 3 times that and get a nice sized house and property in RI.

Yeah, but will look/find a job before I get wherever it is I am going. I am trying to find out some ideas mainly. I just don't want to get a job, and move there then find out that I don't like the area or there are other problems for the area I didn't know about. We will go there before anything and check out the place.
