Please post your State, when asking about requirements for renovations, or new builds, it helps to know the code edition the poster is under . Should add that Canadian members should also post their location also, in most cases specific cities is not needed unless, Chicago, or NYC, who have extra regs.

This is a list of NEC adoption State by State.

In New Jersey you will need to reference the "NJ Uniform Construction Code" to see the amendments to the 2020 NEC and any other codes.…….. The "NJ Rehab Code" is to your benefit! ;)
BTW! THANKS for the list!

Definitely need the location if you have to follow the Chicago-unique code requirements.

Really caught me off guard when we pulled out a receptacle to replace it and found that the 3 three prong receptacle did not have a ground wire coming in, and the wiring colors included blue yellow, etc. Then I remembered that Chicago requires rigid metal conduit for all residential wiring, and the metal conduit itself provides a ground for the metal box and to ground the receptacle. And since all the wiring is run in conduit, using different colors for the hot wire (but no white or gray) means its a little easier to sort out which hot wire is for which circuit.
