Lock Ring Pliers

Hello all,

I’m trying to make up my mind between these two lock ring pliers; any hands on feedback much appreciated:

I’ve read every thread on this forum, worked every coupon and discount, and found the best combo of price and warranty for each version given the coupon and gift card I have, so not looking for brand recommendations.

The one thing that really wasn’t addressed in another thread is which style is better? The Wilde OEM sourced versus the Imperial? They will be used on automotive repair primarily, transmissions and such.

I’m leaning towards the Proto mainly because it’s identical to the Snap-On and, while both companies have great long distance warranty service, Stanley / Proto is a little more mainstream. That being said, I’ve heard good things about the old Craftsman version identical to the Williams/Imperial.

There just isn’t one thing to tip the scale and, I know what forum I’m on, but if I can avoid buying both, I will

I have a set of the wilde branded ones and they are excellent. Can't compare them to the others but I would say they feel and work as nice as my knipex and snap on tools.

The proto is a solid choice. I've changed dozens of painted u joints with mine and the tips are still holding up.

I think the Wilde or Snap-on might be stronger than the Imperial type. I use the Snap-on SRP2B for non automotive stuff

The other thing there is the right angle and straight tip versions of these pliers. May be somebody can comment on which tip version is better for working on cars

I bought a set of the wilde pliers. They worked GREAT. Took longer to get the spring compressor on it than to take the snap ring on and off.

Highly recommended. I have them next to my craftsman snap ring pliers. Each has its place but the big snoot on the craftsman wouldn't fit into the space so I needed something.
