Hey guys I just ordered the SK Locking Drive Adapter....this one

http://www.sjdiscounttools.com/sk45195.html

I was wondering if the snap On model was any different.

http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/item...group_ID=12884&store=snapon-store&dir=catalog

Beings that when you buy their model, it comes with a extension too. Is my SK model any different then the snap on model other then mine obviously doesnt come with a extension? Does the snap on model have a set screw to make it removable to move it to other extensions? Thanks guys!

I think the Snap-on version IS an extension - all one piece. Not an locking adaptor like SK.

I bought the 1/4" version of that last year on ebay. Seem to remember it was advertised a S-K but has Blackhawk on it. Says made in USA and has a patent number. I put it on my Craftsman spinner.

Saw the 3/8" version with a set screw on ebay, but it was more than I wanted to pay.

I also have the Snap-On version in 3/8". The design is identical to the 1/4" and has the same patent number. On my Snap-On a roll pin holds it it place.

Don't know who actually makes or invented that style of locking adapter. When I showed my Snap-On version to my Porsche mechanic he did not think the extension was really a Snap-On extension, because it was "fat" along the shaft.

There was a prior thread when I bought the 1/4" set screw version. Someone needs to look up the patent number.

I got some of these when they first came out?? I think it was about 10 years ago? A 1/4 and a 3/8
Blackhawk is the brand on mine.
Actually the only time I really needed them, and was so glad I'd packed them, was one time working on the town's TV/radio antennas.

Up on the tippy top of the highest mountain, up on the tippy top of the boomtruck boom in a basket (40') .... and then you drop the socket??
Ugh
Leaning over side of the bucket helpless.... Slow motion falling all the way to the ground and bouncing/rolling into the brush downhill. Oh Geeze

I tied the ratchet my wrist and locked on the socket and put some extra nuts/bolts in my pocket.

After that ---long--- embarrassing, fetch, lowering the boom
with a whole gang of people standing by watching and trying not to let me see them giggle :lol_hitti
yours Scott

I have the snappy locking extension sets in chrome and impact and they are nice.

It is a nice deal as you can just push the socket on .

With other styles you have to hold down a button (old style craftsman) or move a slide (current craftsman version) to put the socket on.

Snappy does offer these locking adapters with the set screw in the Blue Point sections of the current catalog #1000 , see page 115 and 141.

Part #'s are YA515A for the 1/4" and YA525A FOR 3/8" drive.

See the links:

Made in the USA.

Probably the inventor or owner of the patent has licensed its use to a number of tool companies.
