Locking flex head not locking

Bought a well used Cornwell EC4S12L off ebay. The end with the 1/4" drive does not stay locked. The other end (bit driver) does stay firmly locked. Any way to fix this? It appears (to my old eyes) that a hex key could open things up but tried both metric and standard and nothing fit.

I just purchased an EC4S12L from eBay in a similar condition too - I wonder if it was from the same seller...

Anyway, the 1/4" square drive on mine doesn't stay locked either. I took both ends off this past weekend, disassembled, cleaned and lubed them. It helped tremendously with the smoothness of the ratcheting, but didn't help with the non-locking flex. It appears the locking piece is damaged.

EZRED now markets this exact same tool under their own brand and as such has rebuild kits for both ends. I'll be picking up both to try and salvage my EC4S12L.

The rebuild parts are:
1/4ʺ Drive Head Replacement Kit for 4S12L Ratchet SKU: RK4S12LA
Hex Drive Head Replacement Kit for 4S12L Ratchet SKU: RK4S12LB

The circled piece in the image below is what's damaged on mine. I suspect that's your issue as well.

Thanks for the info. Very odd that you are having the same exact issue. The ebayer I bought mine from is "impennstate"

Worth measuring the internal hex- sometimes they use a weird size. I recently had a ratchet that used 4.5 mm hex key to open it up. I didn’t even know that size existed til then

Sorry for your misfortune but this entire scenario is so absurd I couldn’t help but laugh out loud. Some guy manages to break two ratchets in the same way, sells them on eBay to two separate buyers, who both happen to post on the same message board, where they share their experiences with each other. If this were a movie it would be panned for being unrealistic.

I've broken mine in the same fashion. They just aren't very durable for their size.

They even purchased on the same day, however, one of them got a better deal.
