Always on the lookout for a better mousetrap, I found Proto JFFHC4, locking hose clamp pliers set. $105.

Looks like a nice tool, I have a pair of the "waffle" style pliers already, locking seems great. Proto quality, what's not to like? Price checking, I looked at Zoro, and found the country of manufacture to be Taiwan. Fine by me, Taiwan can make fine tools. But it got me thinking, I doubt Proto has these as an exclusive.

Well, MAC has them, HC4SET, $134. Not exactly the direction I was hoping to go, in terms of pricing.

Sealey VS0310 , $92, well, I may as well by Proto at that price difference. After shipping to the US, it's a wash.

BINGO: $60 - Titan Forge. Made in Taiwan, same pliers, same cut/styled case.

Gearwrench seems to have a few singles, as well as the Titan Forge brand. Looks like a factory got tooled up and is coming online; other rebrands will likely be coming. The pliers look very nice, and line up properly at the jaws. I was unsure as to the usefulness of the non-waffle style clamps on initial viewing of the pictures. That's what sent me on this path, hoping to reduce my losses if I only got two useful pliers out of the deal. Seeing them in person, I expect all four will do very well.

Another mystery solved. :lol_hitti
