Long time lurker, rare poster. Wouldn't it be useful to enable some sort of lock feature that would disable people from resurrecting old threads? I see a lot of people that ressurect old threads from years ago and it gets annoying. I know some active threads are months/years old... So maybe is there a feature that could "close" the thread after say a month or so of no-posts? The thread would still be viewable and searchable... But you couldn't post/bump it to the top

I find it interesting seeing these old threads, sometimes they are something I would never search, but I will take a peek. I think a lot of times the newest poster doesn't understand that the threads are that old. I have brought some back while searching, sometimes there is no reason to reinvent the wheel.

Why does it bother you? I personally think that too many unnecessary threads gets started and there are a couple posts and somebody starts a similar one a day or two later. To each their own I guess...

I actualy closed an old topic today that a new first time poster had opened again in anger about something posted some time (12 months) ago.
If you see a post resurected and the poster that has opened it again looks doubtfull and say only has one post why not use the report button then point out how the old topic has been revived as often or not some of these are spammers or just time wasters on the forum.

This forum is all about the accumulated wisdom, and folly of it's members. While I troll the new posts, Old threads are nothing more than some notes we've put down for a moment while we read the latest news.
Adding further info, or a new twist, or even humor to subjects we have on file is welcome, as are newbie questions on a subject that may be old to us, but not to the newbie. Threads have plenty of links to each other and sometimes updates and corrections are needed.
Old threads never die, they just get put on the back of the bench while we work on the latest project car.
And even though this is a negative response, KEEP ON POSTING! We need your input on every subject you can contribute on.

I don't think that a good idea. I read old threads on numerous forums often and would sometimes like to ask a question. The rarer the information the more important it is keep opne. An example could be the DR500 thread I have, it wouldn't surprise me if someone years from now asked me questions about the bike..

In some cases it is up to Admin and the Mods. An old topic closed today had a poster angry about what was posted by some one else years ago. The poster that had revived the topic had not posted on the forum before. In a case like this it comes back to common sense and not posting in anger.
