When using locking pliers, what do you find yourself using more? Curved or straight? Needlenose?

Why? What uses specifically?

I'm thinking straight jaw would be more useful. Thoughts?

I have at least one of each of the 3 types you mentioned. I use the needle nose more than I ever thought !

I would get a variety of them. I just bought the snap on lp404 kit. comes with 4 pliers 3 standard jaw and one needle nose. from large to small. for 90 bucks. not bad at all and best yet NOT MADE IN CHINA! but a bunch of guys i work with say you can find old style vice grips (USA made) on ebay for less than 40 bucks for a nice little set.

10 inch curved
10 inch straight
6 inch needlenose

You made a good choice. A lot of people don't understand the differences in release lever designs of the different locking pliers out there on the market. Grip-On and Knipex have the correct design.

I was looking at getting the Grip-On's themselves from Chad's...and then was alerted by a member here that Zoro carried the Proto's.

I also used a coupon at Zoro to make the whole deal about $90 shipped. $15 a plier ain't bad.

As stated..you can never have too many of these. I just picked up this old miniature Petereson era needle nose at a flea market for 75 cents. I think it was only 4 inches long. Don't think I will use it much but that one time I need it I will be sooooo happy i spent that 75 cents.

We all LOVE coupons around here! Cough it up! :D

And I agree with the sentiments that getting yourself a variety of curved, straight, and needle nose would be very helpful. Several different sizes as well.

Glad to see it worked out. I've bought Grip-Ons from Amazon, and they're the all-nickel ones. Great pliers, but when I saw the black-and-red Protos, I salivated a little. That they worked out cheaper than Amazon definitely sweetened the deal. You'll definitely like them, I think.

In my opinion, Amazon doesn't have very good pricing at all on Grip-Ons. I always look to Chadstoolbox or as someone mentioned, Zoro tools. I perused Zoro's selection of the "Proto" locking pliers and their price is right and they have a wide assortment as well.

Maybe true, but Amazon is a lot easier to order from. I stumbled on Zoro's Protos and went that route a few weeks back. Quite satisfied. The USA plier roll that the three-piece set came in was a pleasant surprise. So far, I think Zoro has the best deal going on most things Proto/Grip-On.

Was it a public coupon?

So you got these models? (not necessarily this set)
Proto Locking Pliers

I got that set, plus the flipped versions of each of those, i.e. if the set was a 7 inch curved I got a 7 inch straight, etc.

Code PCMOFF will get you $20 off a $75 purchase, free shipping over $50.

I think I wanna get the smaller 5 inch ones as well. Not sure.
