Or just get the vice grip adaptor for slide hammers. It replaces the tension screw in vice grips and fits 5/8 18 thread slide hammers. I use mine often.

I have the one on eBay. Works well, but I use it for bodywork- pulling pinch welds, edges, studs... I needed the pull to be more in line with the jaws. Ended up welding a bolt to the spine of the vise grips. This way, the pull is directly in line with the jaws. Otherwise, you might end up getting funky pulls/bends/creases in sheet metal.

The 5/8"-18 is the female end of the adapter so that your typical slide hammer can thread onto it. The male end threads into the vise grip.

I took the easy way out and just welded a nut to the adjusting bolt on the Vise Grips. I always expected to find a need to change it to a configuration that would provide a straight pull but it has always worked just fine the way it is. I have drug my pedestal vise around the shop with it so it seems plenty solid.

My Vice Grip slide hammer adaptor came with my slide hammer set. When I first got it I thought to myself, what the hell am I going to use that for thats useless. I couldn't have been more wrong. I use it often, it's a life saver!
