Looked at some yesterday at Ace Hardware in Seeley Lake (MT). They're made in China and they looked like cheap-a$$ junk! The jaws were especially chintzy and the fit and finish were about 58th rate. Save your money (and a lot of cusswords!). Glenn

Yeah, they're definitely made in China. I have two pairs laying around that I wouldn't mind getting rid of. I found the same pair by Irwin, Vise-Grips, AND made in USA at Home Depot, so I bought those too and use them instead.

Yep. I saw these at Sears and declared them "junky." I am sure that these aren't terrible, but they're definitely below average.

I picked up some of the lockjaw units at this past years SEMA show to try out.
the ones I got were the C clamp style to hold things together during fab and welding.
I have not used them too much but so far I am very happy. the thing I like is that you can set the tension you want on them and they will automatically adjust to the thickness of the material which should quicken somt things up and when you have your hands full and are trying to get something clamped in place that could be an advantage.

now the other side
I was playing with the tension adjustment and it seems to be a bit touchy. once you have it set that is not a problem but on applications where you are going to grab a broken bolt in order to work it out, this could be a problem.
I know there are applications where you sometimes want a light grab on something and other times you want a heavy grab, in this application these are exactly opposite of what you want.

looks
yep the looks do scream china, but I overlooked that enough to give them a try (of course I got 4 of them for $20 at the show)

lets see some other evaluations

I've played with these at Sears and they seem ok. I wouldn't buy them, but if they were given to me I'd throw them in my box.

Ya, opinion seems to run either one or the other. Some folks say they are pure **** and others love them.

Thanks for the reviews!

I wonder if those are made by Grip-on

I tried the Lockjaws at my local Home Hardware store at two different occasions. The first time I checked them out, I just could not get the self-adjustment feature to work; it just would not adjust to different thicknesses...it was permanently in a fixed position. I thought, "I'm either a real tool noob or this thing is just a POS!" That was the last one on the rack at the time and perhaps there was a reason. I went back another time and found one that actually worked. At first I was impressed at the self-adjusting feature, clamping on different areas of the metal display rack. I wasn't sold on it yet--I wanted to find out the hardness of the teeth. I securely clamped onto a solid rod of the steel rack and rotated the lock jaws. The result turned me off. I put it right back onto the shelf where it belonged.
