I just picked up a new bottle of 242 and when i proceed to squeeze some for first time use, nothing came out... The nozzle is still clean so it should be new, but after opening it up, there was less 1/2 inside. I went to check my used 50ml bottles of 290 and 545 and they are over 5/8 full.

Is this normal?

...being an anaerobic setting compound, it's normal/necessary for all the containers to be partially empty, thus plenty of air to prevent hardening. The tricky part is knowing exactly what level constitutes "full".

Do you have any graduated cylinders? ...decant the contents and measure?

...seems sick in the head just typing this out! LOL
..perhaps just go to a store and measure the contents level on one off the shelf? I'm pretty sure the bottle is slightly opaque and if you hold it up to a bright light source you should be able to see the level?

..is this a wind up??? If so, I fell for it!

I doubt they would let me empty the bottles in store and checking the weight on a gram scale might be the best bet. It isn't opaque enough to see through even with a flashlight. Maybe i should just go and exchange it with a bottle that feels heavier since i haven't use it yet.

On a side note, i really like the green wicking 290 on finished work. After letting it cure for 24 hours, the thing is almost as strong if not as strong as 242.

If you use enough to consume the bottle before it goes bad then you could try to return it. Me I've never used enough to to consume the whole bottle we before it thickens.

I am pretty sure i know how to use loctite since i have gone through a few bottles. As for 290 strength, yes it is weaker on paper, but 290 gives you a 100% seal from one end to the other. Another thing i notice is that 290 feels a bit gummy after you break it loose and there is still good resistance till you unwind it completely off. 242 on the other hand just slides off after you break it lose. In my real world use, the 290 is harder to take off and maybe it just how the gummy factor of 290.

Perhaps other 290 users could chime in, i might be wrong but i don't mind. I think 290 holds better than 242 unless you torch 290 before removal.

Real world, 242 is stronger. Have you ever done break-a-way testing on them? I have many-a-times, along with force testing with 242, 272, 290, 266 & 640 among others.

Do you know how to use the? You said in your fist post you squeezed the bottle and nothing came out. :D

FYI: Loctite changed their bottle design a couple years ago.....hence my question.

Open cap, pull the tip up to open... aint rocket science so i didn't mention it. I also never said 290 was better in break-away, but it holds better because it has the 250 in/lb prevail vs 43 in/lb from 242. Try removing a nut from a 4" bolt with a wrench, you will take much longer with the 290.

Same here. Although the pour spout on the larger bottle looks like the ticket. Any way to increase shelf life?
