Loctite Extend?

This question is for those of you who have personally used Loctite Extend, or have intimate knowledge of the product.

I am going to be doing some work on my DD, and I have a few areas that have some surface rust, but that are tough to prep (wheel wells, frame section, and bed).

I plan to try to remove as much of the rust as I possibly can mechanically, and then use Extend to treat what may be left.

I hear that Loctite recommends 24hrs before working over the product, so I want to know if you know that to be a "carved in stone" rule, or can I push it? Also, how durable is the stuff if I need to drive my truck in that 24hr window? Am I simply going to risk getting flash rust during that time if I do?

Thanks

I got a bottle to paint on. Didn't have luck with spray on aerosol can. I used it on rusted panels on a car I am redoing. It worked well changing it to a black surface. I would say not to paint on it till the recommended time cause it's converting the rust and probably off gassing something which will make your paint fail. But if you have to drive it I doubt it will come off. Use a needle scaler. Loud as hell but man they make quick work of getting rid of scaley rust.
Have you considered por15? More expensive but it will dry to rock hard in a few hours. It's not uv resistant so has to be painted over....they might have one that is uv now. Difference between the two is prep. Pot has several steps so take a look. Recommmend brushing on either

I will be using it as a safety precaution more than anything. I don't have flakey rust, or anything that will require a scaler, but the wheel wells have a bunch of little nooks and crannies that might not get prepped well enough to remove all of the surface rust and I don't want it coming back...or small pits that I might not get it out of. Same with some steelies I'm going to do.

Do you know if it offers any protection from rust on its own?

Locktite converts the rust. It needs rust to work well. It's just a converter. You still need to paint. Por15 covers the rust so it does not get oxygen and keep rusting. Por is hard as nails as long as it doesn't lift but also needs some paint on it

Yes, I would be spraying Extend, and then painting. But the issue is the 24hr gap between loctite and topcoat...
