loft above garage door confusion

Ive read through many threads and cannot come up with a specific gameplan for loft storage above my one-piece double car garage door. Width of the garage is at 20 feet and I have about 8 feet of depth to use.

I have seen everything from LVL, ibeams, double 2x12's, and more to do this. Anyone able to suggest the right way to do this? I will be putting some weight up there.. storage bins, etc and would not want to worry about weight.

Welcome to GJ. Best way to find info is to use SEARCH which in in black line near top of site, then use Advanced Search to narrow down the hits.

I've found you several posts to get you started. Obviously there's various materials that people use: UniStrut, Wood, Steel, store-bought mesh, etc.

How you frame it and the load it will be able to carry all depend on overall height, usable height and width desired in addition to anticipated live load. Without this info it's all guesswork and supposition.

Make sure when you decide how you're going to frame it, you take into consideration if you ever decide to replace or upgrade your door, A sectional door requires more headroom than a one piece door!!
