loft hatch questions

Hi folks. I have a set of stairs leading up to my storage loft in my garage.
4'x 8' in size.
I just finished building the hatch last weekend.
I have it running on pulleys to the top of the roofline then down to the wall below on a cleat.
It is an easy pull to get it to raise. But the rope is stretching and not giving the proper clearance when open.
Anyone with ideas on how to run the door opening? Other than rope?

I had a rather large Tra door to my attic storage on one hop that was counterweighted with a five gallon bucket of concrete, it was attached by 3/16 aircraft cable to three pulleys to give an nice easy pull to lift or lower. My only complaint was the look of the counterweight.
