Not one to be content in just doing 1 project and finishing it, I seem to like having 20 or 30 things to do all at once :lol_hitti

I searched the loft threads and found lots and lots of great info.
But there's still some questions left on how to go about it.

Starting off, the garage is pretty close to 19X19 x 15 tall. There are 3x 8' insulated doors ( 2 @ front, 1 @ back).
I want to build a loft with about 9' of headroom under it, and try to max the space above it for storage.

What I'd like to do is use an I beam to span the width of the shop. From the I beam, I'd like to install a trolley and a chain block to lift stuff (engine/bike/etc..) that once lifted, I could then pull it across the shop as needed. Picture the car engine being pulled on one side of the garage, then pulled into my work space near my tools.

On the loft, I'd like to store my dirt bikes (300lbs each). I saw one thread where they used barn door type track with an electric winch that would be perfect! The track would run front to back of the shop, allowing me to lift the bike up and pull/push it back onto the loft for save storage.

The questions:
I beam dimensions needed.
How to support the barn door track to the ceiling (engineered trusses = 2x4)
Options/suggestions
and the main one: am I nuts for even thinking this will work?

I've started another thread to help me with the furnace install (which I've gotten great advice on and look to have a plan pretty much in place). There's lots of pictures there to help imagine my idea...

I've sent the I beam dimensions request to my contractor for advice. Hopefully he can spec it out for me.

I rechecked my measurements and the loft depth will be 8'.

I suspect 2X6 joist to support my floor w/16 OC and 5/8 OSB or plywood will be good.
