Guys I need some information on log buildings. I have a slabbed outdoor section 15 X 40 on the back of my shop and I was considering building a log "cabin" addition on it.

I dont want a kit, I am looking for something that I can do myself along with the family. Other than lincoln logs I have no experience building with logs.

Anyone else ever do this?

Uhh....., buy old utility poles from the power company and make your own, adult sized Lincoln Logs?

you can buy siding that looks like logs split down the middle.
you hang it like normal clapboards, but it looks like a log cabin when you're done.

EDIT:
buy "The Craft of Modular Post and Beam" by James Mitchell.
it's a great book with gobs about selecting, harveting and building with logs.

They're selling the logs for the 4 outer walls of different size cabins - no kits, just enough logs to put up the walls...they're in MO but will ship...part of a liquidation of a failed resort near Branson for which the logs were ordered but financing fell through.

I googled the phone number below and saw your response to a user's question where you gave the following information. I've been in contact with the folks at this number and the deal seems too good to be true. Have you purchased any of the logs from them?

Thanks!

Rich
