I have a splitter that I bought new in the early 1990’s. It is an MTD, and the pump has started leaking around the shaft seal. The pump is a Barnes 7170936, and I can not find much at all online about it. Wondering if anyone can help me locate a new shaft seal for it, or would I have to get the dimensions and look for one like that? Also wondering what the best place is to get seals if I have to do the measure and match thing.
Thanks for any help!

Well I appreciate no one who has been there and done that making fun of me. I took the mount plate and lovejoy off tonight and it is just a 5068 seal, says right on it.

Good that you found the part number. I ran across this thread and was going to suggest that the seal itself may have a number if you were willing to do a bit of teardown to see.

Thatnks! The shaft was nice and smooth, I put the seal in a couple days days ago and today I put it all together and fired it up. No leak. When I took it apart I also found the the lovejoy spider was gone and the metal of the spurs was about half gone. So it got a new lovejoy connector also.
I topped off the fluid, cycled the cylinder a few times, and split a few pieces. Everything seems to be working.
