Today while splitting wood with my hyd log splitter (Swisher) I had it in the vertical position and thought "with adapters maybe this could be made into a shop press". I googled that thought and sure nuff, somebody's already thought of that.
Anybody on here use their splitters for that purpose?

That is very clever.
Regarding the coment on travel, anything used for other than it's purpose will need to be tested for safety, and that is how things get tested to improve on.

Keep it alive.

The lever on mine is variable. I can move it slightly and the ram will move slowly. I can push the lever hard over and the ram will move at full speed. I think this has some possibility! I don't have much use for a press to take up room in the shop. But maybe I can fab something up and use my splitter.

Today was out in my detached garage I'm building and was in need of a vise to hold a piece of 2x6. I got a nice big vise in my house garage but it's a few steps away and it's always a little greasy anyway. I got the log splitter stored in new garage and somehow thought of using that as a vise. Worked great (with a gentle touch on the lever).

Another use that I think might work would be a tire bead breaker.

Also to raise objects. Put that splitter in vertical position and hook adapter to object and hit the lever. What I got in mind is a ice shack one of my kids built and is sitting in yard and I want to lift it to get in onto at least 4x4's and roll it away with some plank and pipe. Sure, I could use my floor jack but it'd be more interesting to try the splitter:). Just gotta think and be safe when trying this stuff because there is a lot of force behind 28 ton.
