I'm considering purchasing a Logan lathe I found online for sale. I'm unsure of the model or if the PO has done some interchanging of parts. he has a manual that
claims its a 900 series machine, and someone wrote model 55456 on the manual and unit. I found a list online of models and their specs here.

http://www.lathe.com/models.htm

and according to this, the machine should have flat belts, however in the photos its clearly a V belt machine. Also it has both the turret and standard carriage. Any ideas of what he has here?

You might try HobbyMachinist.com. there is an entire section of the forum for Logans. I'm far from an expert but not familiar with a Vbelt model. Maybe newer? Looks similar to the model 200 otherwise.

I have a friend who bought a farm and a Logan 200 lathe went with it. It looked exactly like that lathe. I bought some machinery from him and while looking around I found a full set of change gears for the Logan. I believe some of the Logan 200 lathes could be adapted with the quick change gear box. My theory is that the former owner switched it to the QCGB and kept the gears. The QCGB didn't appear original.

I'd bet money that QC box is original factory Logan. Have a similar QC on my 1966 vintage 9" Logan lathe.

Anytime I see a lathe with a turret tailstock, it makes me think the lathe was used in production work and likely has significant wear.

I thought thd same with the turret tailstock. It just looks to me like someone has been intermingling parts. The person selling is not flexible enough on his price anyway so.........I'll keep shopping.
Thanks for the responses.
