I picked up an 8" logan shaper yesterday. Attached is a picture of the shaper with the base sitting behind it in my trailer. I also have the vise for it, but it was removed from the shaper before the picture was taken. When I arrived the fellow had another machine sitting in the driveway that he had just pulled out of his basement, and he said I could take it if I wanted to for free. Once I saw the huge cast iron base I didn't hesitate. The base by itself has to weigh at least 250 lbs. More likely 300+ lbs. It says American Machine Tool Co. No. 1 Surface Grinder on the base. I've tried looking this machine up online but haven't had any luck. I was wondering if somebody here might recognize it and know something about it? Please share whatever information you can. Thanks.

Thanks! I found it on page 352. The overall weight of the machine is listed as 500 lbs. That sounds right.

Cool shaper! I have an atlas, and it is fun to use on occasion.

No idea on the grinder.

Thanks Slowboat! I used to own an Atlas shaper. They’re nice machines. It will be interesting to see how the Logan shaper performs in comparison. Apparently this one spent the majority if its working life in a local school. So it saw very little use. And taking it apart was surprisingly easy. I think that I can get it back up and running without too much effort. I will need to swap out the 3 phase motor for a single phase. And I have plenty of those on hand.
