http://toolguyd.com/2010/12/kobalt-multi-drive-wrench-full-hands-on-review/

So someone left a comment on ToolGuyd today calling me a tool because of how I reviewed a tool. Apparently I missed out on the point that it was meant to be a great gift item.

I still have yet to find a natural application to use the tool for. Every time I come across a fastening job, the darn thing doesn't fit!

Eh, can't please 'em all!

I tried to use one the other day at home. I hated it, I think a one jawed Crescent wrench would be easier.

I got the Black and Decker version last year for x-mas (thing was like 25 bucks). Never even took it out of the package, just hung it on my pegboard. The wife asked about it couple weeks ago. hehe well I couldn't lie to her, so now she is re-gifting it to my father-in-law hehe. Can't wait to see his face on Christmas morning LOL

Being a reviewer - or critic - means NEVER saying you're sorry! As critics always say: Any comments are good - positive or negative - means someone's reading!

The bottom line with these types of tools are: "they try to do everything, in the process of trying to do everything.... they don't do anything particularly well"! There is a reason that there are thousands of differents types of wrenches, sockets, ratchets etc.; the right tool for the job.... sometimes it requires a special tool to do things right! :) Another thing for tool companies to make and for us to buy! :)

That's something to definitely keep in mind!

Yes, but sometimes multi-tools can function reasonably well.

But this one... I care for it so little that I don't even want to give it away. I'll either return it if I can find the receipt, or keep it as a reminder of what some companies truly care about.

Since this is an anonymous forum, I can admit I don't fully understand the connotation of calling someone a "tool."

The obvious meaning would be a "pawn" or "patsy," a person being used merely to accomplish some other task--like a citizen who votes for a politician who promises "hope and change," for example, when said politician had no intent of producing either. But Urban Dictionary gives a dizzying array of meanings for "tool":

- an unwelcome person
- an outsider / outgrouper
- a poser
- an idiot
- an ******
- someone seeking approval

So what exactly did the person mean when they called you a tool?

Oh, sure, pick the one definition that's ambiguously negative and requires yet another definition...

Words are tools, too, and deserve to be used with precision and for the correct task.

Dunno.

Usually I hear it being used in connotation with someone being led on and being easily manipulated to achieve a puppetmaster's goals.

In which case isn't that the opposite of what I'm doing and saying about the wrench?

Exactly, hence my confusion. People who over-use a specific word for a variety of diverse and conflicting meanings are such ****** tools. Grow a farking vocabulary, I say. Try a little erudition. Anyone whose entire lexicon can be circumscribed within 200 words should be disallowed from criticizing. Knuckle-dragging troglodytes.

Where the tall corn grows!
Classic example of people defining their existence and position in society through emotional value placed on a material good. "I'm part of the Kobalt Multi-Tool Tribe, don't criticize my possessions, it hurts my feelings..."

I've been called that and much worse F#ck em if they can't take a joke. But in defense of that tool they are perfect for the boat it is a great emergency tool. I have the craftsman ones and replaced an impellor on a boat with one of those vs. a 300.00 dollar water tow. Sure not an everyday tool but the wieght and usefulness it is very handy to have that and, a flat head, a phillips, adjustable wrench to hold the other nut, channel locks and a roll of duct tape never leave the dock with out that as a minimum. Long cruises a mini shop is on board but a small tool tote with one tool that does multiple things is all you can have on the water. Also makes a great thing to throw at that friggin cat creepin around my yard pretty accurate up to about 50 feet.
