Long 1/4” drive speeder

Good afternoon all,

Now that I’ve got the basics all covered (again), starting to look for the oddball stuff that just made life easier. One of my favored obscure tools was a 12” long 1/4” driver handle (basically an extension with a screwdriver handle). The one I had was obtained umpteen years ago at Big A, and had a blue acetate handle - damned if I can remember a brand name, or if I ever knew it in the first place.

I’ve been scouring the internet and haven’t had much success, anybody know of someone who manufactures such a thing?

HF sells one that is extendable and is a little over 12 inches at full length. also has a 1/4 inch female on the end to attach a ratchet. they call it a socket driver I believe.

For internet search reference purposes I figured I would mention it. There is some overlap in tool naming, but it sounds like the OP wants a spinner handle or a socket extension handle, not a speeder handle. The name "speeder handle" usually refers to tools with bent offset shafts for two handed turning of fasteners.

Usually once the shafts become longer, manufacturers sell spinner type tools with t-handles instead of screwdriver style handles, so there won't be many options out there. A few companies make the extendable shaft versions that 619DioFan mentioned, but long fixed shaft pickings will be slim.

As a side note, you will have a better chance of finding what you are looking for OP if you also do some searches using metric measurements, especially related to the shaft length. Lots of tools specs are metric only these days. I found this King Tony 2177DF (12-1/4" overall length including the handle) using "300mm spinner handle 1/4" as my search terms. IDtools has them in stock for $8.27 plus shipping.

Whats your budget?
MAC has a 6", 10" and 14" locking model, but its pricey.
It does have a female square in the handle ****, which is always a nice feature.
Could wait and see if one pops up on the bay.

On the Palmac site,that I have ordered with great results. I ordered a Koken 2769h.It is a 1/4 drive handle that speeds but then breaks like a breaker bar for final torque.It has a soft firm handle.I liked it so much,I ordered the 3/8 drive.Koken is pricey,but the Japanese quality is exceptional,good luck.

a tad pricey, I think I have this set in 3/8 ... (can't ever recall using it though) . but you can put a ratchet in the top of the handles which is neat... I guess

Thank you - that King Tony job is ideal. Being from a background that is very metric adverse, I’d have never thought to switch to “Plan 25.4” to look for tools.

I thought these were real common until I went looking for one Perhaps cordless tools and constant tension hose clamps made long spinner handles go the way of the dodo bird

I have more in my tool box than I could find available online In the long category ( over 8 inches) I have Felo, Beta, Snap on, Mac, Thexton (really long at 2 feet), and VIM. Most of which are no longer available it seems.

The only one I could find was this one, and it's flexible.

Harbor Freight has a telescoping socket driver that extends from 7-5/8 to 12-11/16.
$9 bucks.

Snap-on used to make a 12" one that doubled as an extension. I got lucky and found one at an estate sale for a dollar. Keep searching Ebay and the like you may come up with one. They still sell the 6" but I agree, not as useful.

I think, like Fed, that cordless 1/4" impacts and ratchets have replaced these particularly since their primary value was worm drive clamps and constant tension clamps have basically replaced these. Why should I turn a handle, thereby actually doing physical labor perish the thought, when I can let electrons do it for me.

Drives me batty seeing these guys using impacts for assembly/installation, especially on older stuff.
