Long Ground Jumper

Anyone know where i can get a really long ground jumper for my multimeter?
I am looking for one that will plug straight into my fluke to reach from the front to the back of a long bed truck .

I made one for mine out of an extra set of leads. Just cut off the end and splice in a piece of wire however long you need.

What are you trying to measure?

Short Answer-
Not really. Unless you are trying to measure milli-volt differences and precision resistors.

Just use good quality jumper wire (i.e. low resistance is what you want)

I just bought these

Pomona Silicone 60" Premium Test Lead Extensions

You will need 2 sets of each to reach to the back of a pickup ! Even then you will have to hook the red and black leads together in order to get enough length. Don't worry, electrons are color blind !

OR

Pomona Horizontal Stacking Banana Plug/Jack HB-60-0 Where -60 is the length (60") and -0 is the color (0 for black)

OR

Roll you own Pomona Test Lead Wire (for a professional look, I would take a short patch cord, cut it and splice a long piece in the middle and finish with shrink tubing)

It is a shame that there aren't many real "electronics" stores around any more. I can recall walking into the local electronics store, buying test lead wire off a reel, buying the appropriate banana plugs for my Triplett meter, and selecting the test probes with the kind of ends I wanted, plus slip-on alligator clips, all from a rack of component parts.

Nowadays, I can't even find the fuse I need for my A/C control, because all that exists anymore are Radio Shack stores, and they sell only very common stuff.

We have a local "electronics" store, and I emailed them a while back, looking for banana plugs for custom multimeter leads, and they said they didn't have them.
Now MOST of our Radio Shacks are phone stores, and Electronic Supply (the fore-mentioned store) is more like a Radio Shack from the late 80's to early 90's.

I'm lucky. 5 minutes from my place is an electronics store ("Mastervox") with more cool stuff than I will ever need....surplus, bulk and hard to find items. There are a number just like it across Quebec. A rarity, most of the time I can't find the neat stuff the rest of you do

With a Fluke, you just touch the leads together and push the zero button, yes you should.

What are you trying to do. A PowerProbe would be a greater help than longer leads on a meter. A PowerProbe gets you hot wire, ground wire together to check each wire end to end. And gives you test lights that will show open-hot-ground.

Why not use the chassis as the ground lead?

'Back in the day'....when cars had metal chrome bumpers.....if all you had was cheap jumper cables....you just touched the bumpers together and used both cables on the + posts.
