Long Reach Pliers?

I much prefer the Gearwrench double x pliers to any other long reach ones I have. You only have to open them as much as normal pliers which makes them much easier to use.

All ones I seen are usa stamped on plier joint, not surprised if proto moved to import though .

All the Blackhawks stamped USA are actually rebadged Proto and are no longer in production. Stanley has since decided that was being too generous so they are now sourcing the Blackhawks from Asia.

^ Yeh I know they proto as have same model numbers, I prefer the grip coating/color on proto branded but the blackhawks version are a steal at 15bucks a piece so anyone after some best buying before stock gone or prices rise .

I have the Pro America version of the 11 inch straight. Earlier this year I became curious and purchased 2 Williams USA long nose pliers (about 7inch) and they are practically identical to models on the Pro America web site.

I'll wrap this up with a question: can you ever have enough long nose pliers????

hated the double-x got them stupid clearance from HD sold them used and still made a profit using a freaking set of jobstar tractor supply company ones that cost like $7 total on clearance that are better. I'll get knipex oens eventually or the blackhawk/proto set

The Sunex 16" set has worked just fine for me. Roughly 50 bucks for four on Amazon.

2 different animals. The HD slipjoint long reach are bigger and will not fit into as many places as the 'long nose, long reach'. If you are needing to retrieve a dropped part, manipulate a wire, etc the long nose long reach will be better. If you need to compress a spring or a hose clamp, or bend a stiff piece of metal in an otherwise unreachable place, the slip joint long reach style is better.

So the standard Garage Journal universal answer applies: both

For the little use that I have had, the HF ones have already paid for themselves.

If it was regular pliers, needle nose, dikes, or I was making a living using them that's a different story but you did say "DIY'er"

Thanks for the link- just last weekend I needed a pair of long-reach and realized to my surprise that I didn't own a set.... Thread popped up at the perfect time and mine have already arrived
