Well after staring at these gorgeous garages for years, I finally decided to bite the bullet and to do my own two car garage.

I essentially want to copy this garage, www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=631

Does anybody know what board, if any "Redlinerobert" posts on?

My question is, how high does the Grey portion of his wall come up, and how thick (i.e. inches) is the red band? Does anybody know the specific brand/color he used.

Unfortunately I only have a Dodge Charger to put in my garage but I'm sure I can easily duplicate his masterpiece with advice from you all.

Thanks in advance, Ryan

The last picture shows a Sears cabinet that I have in the corner. The stripe is +/- the same height as the handle and the location vertically should be fairly easy to determine. I'm too tired to go out tonight but will in the morning and measure it out for you.

As for colors, get a silver or light gray that you like for the bottom, a red that will complement the gray and an off white upper wall color.

Welcome....and a little advice....

This is a great board....it helped me a lot when I was building my garage....

But....do your own thing.....the idea is to not copy what someone has done, but learn from it....improve on it....

Using Jack Olson as an example....he has taken what is a very normals size 2 car garage and maximized the usable space....and on a budget....

You will find that the majority of us do not have a Jay Leno budget when it comes to our garages......yea, we drool over some of the garages....but in most of those cases, the owner 'paid' someone to do most of the work....

The real garages are the small 2 car shacks that show how to maximize the space and utility.....

We want to see what you an do to improve what we have done.....

So....take some time...have a few more beers (beer seems to be a common thing here...go figure) and figure out what you really want....if it ends up being a duplicat of what someone else has done...great....but if you can improve on it just one small bit....even greater....it gives the next guy a chance to improve it even more....

One last thing....PICTURES......post pics of what you have....we may be old...but now and then we do remember old posts...

Went out this morning and measured comparing the picture to my cabinet. The bottom area of paint looks to be 42" to 43" high with a 5" stripe on top of it.

Hey thanks guys for the quick responses and the advice. I can appreciate the idea to be unique idea however I just think that is the perfect color scheme to go with my fire engine red Charger. Luckily my house is new, with little to no spills on the concrete, and I don't do much work in the garage. (I know..I know). Anyways, thanks again everybody.

You can always simulate the red band on cardboard or such and do mock ups until you have what you like. I did a double stripe that I wound up repainting because I didn't check it out first.

Also, after going through several greys, I came up with Benjamin Moore's 2124-30 Deep Silver. it is a true grey, and looks like the pictures of the garage you are wanting to emulate. Some greys are not true grey, and they may look good in the store, but they look wrong on the wall. By all means get a sample, but I don't see how anyone could go wrong with this color.

You should color-match the Charger's paint for the stripe on the walls.

I will posts pics of the final paint job tomorrow. First we sprayed the entire garage in a semi gloss white (including ceiling). I ended up going 41" high with the grey, with a 5" red stripe. This was ideal, the stripe is just below the wall outlets. As you can see i still need another coat or two of the red. Very happy with it so far.

I've been pricing the VCT at Lowes and HD. Both have the exact same price, and are offering 10% off when you open a credit card, with 6mo no interest. So I will probably be doing that. It seems Home Depot has more stock/accessories related to VCT so I'll likely go with them.

I will be doing the floor next weekend, or possibly the weekend after.
