So like the title says I have been a member of the forum for almost five years now and this is my very first post. I have frequently referred to posts on this forum when starting projects to use from reference or inspiration and even at times when I was bored out of my mind and just wanted something to read. After reading a couple long time posters blogs about their ongoing projects I finally decided it was my turn to contribute. So I should probably start off with a proper introduction.

I am a 39 year old dude from the midwest, I am married to a beautiful woman who is much smarter than me (at least according to all her degrees) and I have an 11 year old son. I am an operating engineer (control room operator) at an electrical generation power plant at our state university. I have a very diverse background thanks to being brought up by my father who can literally do anything. I am not an expert but have experience in carpentry, cabinet making, welding, race car fabrication, sheet metal work, machining, industrial equipment repair and many other tasks that was essential in my fathers businesses growing up.

Three years ago my wife and I bought a brand new spec home in a new subdivision in my home town. Since she saw the work I was able to do on our last fixer upper house she knew I could turn that spec home into a full custom home. So thats what I have been working on the last three years. I have spent so much time doing that and cranking out fabrication projects for other people that I have not properly setup my shop. Well the time for that is now, well kind of. I am finishing up the metal work on a 70 Chevelle supersport in the net week or so then to finish the restoration of the Delta Unisaw I just bought then the garage. You guys know how it goes one foot infront of the other.

So since I have enjoyed following some of your projects on here and have noticed that posting these projects help keep some of you guys motivated and held accountable I decided it was my turn to contribute and get my garage setup. Because of my profession i work swing shift, thats right a full rotating shift, in five weeks I have worked at least one week of all three shifts. As a result of that my buddies don't really stop by to see whats going on in the garage like they used to which I miss. I think this gives me the opportunity to have you guys stop by, have a beer and shoot the **** (virtually). I like this because i don't have to stop working to talk and I can share when Im done screwing things up lol. So with that short introduction come on in, grab a beer from the fridge and lets talk about the garage.

Great to have you here! Do you have any photos of the will-be shop that you can share? What size is your garage and what sort of work are you looking to outfit it for? I can relate to the long time lurker. Though I get on here from time to time myself I don't always post anything.

Unfortunately I don't have anything on this computer, I a plan on taking some pics tomorrow to use as a starting point. Especially since right now it is more packed than it has ever been!! The garage is your basic two car attached on a new home, it is 21' wide and 26' deep. I do a little bit of everything really from race car fabrication to body work to cabinet making. I just want a very organized clean shop that I can enjoy being in rather than always digging for stuff and having to move piles around to get anything done.

So I am embarrassed of how my garage looks at the moment but like I said this is the starting point to getting it put together properly. I am a very neat person almost OCD like but I also am a very busy person who takes on too much at once admittedly.

May I suggest you update your location as in future you may find that helps you when you have specific questions that affect you. Specially given the forum has a very global membership. Often you will find subjects may get different answers depending on locations and regulations.
