LOL, always wanted to say that. My google searches seem to find its way to this forum pretty often, so decided to join, as I have a question or two.
Like most things I do, a google search is typically fruitless, since I'm not looking for fruit, but meat and potatoes. However, google seems to find places that sell meat and potatoes to show me. I dunno, but maybe its just me, but google has gotten so much worse that it used to be. Of course I was around before google even existed, running a hotrod howto forum and managing the drag racing mailing list. Youtube also, they seem to meter out related videos, they show me a few, then next day another one, next day another. This must be on purpose.

Anyways just adding text here, I recently did a 'hanger style' garage door conversion, or what be called a horizontal bifold door. One that folds in the middle horizontally. I found almost nothing about these doors as DIY, only few corporations selling them, usually big ones. I did this because I had a sectional rollup door but it had no overhead tracks or springs or anything, and was sealed up with spray foam while they grew illegal plants inside. I'm just renting this space, so improvements must be minimal and require almost nothing to buy only junk I have on hand. Fortunately I have a lot of junk on hand, filling up my previous 3300sf shop (which they raised the rent by 50% so I'm out)

So I wondered if I can just make it a horizontal bifold by moving the hinges to the top on the outside and tying the panels together into solid panels on the top and bottom. Well yes this works! I used a chain hoist to pull up on the bottom, and it folds in half and rolls up the wall and opens up. Nice.
It needs some improvement though. I had to call it good for now, as I moved stuff in and needed to get it open and closeable, so that was success.
But soon I will need it to work better, and most importantly with winter coming, I need to keep the mice from getting in..

Found a couple pics of the hanger door. This is fully open. I really need to move up the hinges on top so it will open further to match the garage opening. That is no easy once the door is all assembled. I'm also going to replace the chain hoist with a powered winch, as it is quite slow to open and close it. All good for now, but I will be making major improvements on it later.

aren't the bi-fold doors usually counterbalanced? use cable and weights?

If you want to open them by hand.

If you want to open them by hand, particularly from the outside. With my setup, it can only be opened from the inside, but I have a side door to get into the garage and then the garage door is 'locked' without having any kind of lock.
