LONG wrenches...

So, it seems that what a lot of manufacturers refer to as their "long pattern" wrenches would be considered "standard" by Snap-On?

Using an 18mm as reference, it seems that the "OEXLM18B" is about 12.4" long, whereas the "SOEXM18" is 10.5" long.

First, does Snap-On not offer the Flank Drive Plus in what they call a long pattern?

Second, who else sells longer-than-most wrenches, besides Snap-On? Looking at several other brands, their "long" 18mm is the same 10.5".

Finally, if there's anyone that actually sells long wrenches, do they offer a similar technology to the "Flank Drive Plus" in that long pattern?

Just curious...I'm looking for another set of combination wrenches, and like the long long ones, but I don't REALLY need them - that said, if I can find long long AND a surface-drive/flank-drive-plus clone on them, that'd probably push my decision to buy.

Snap-on ratchet wrenches are longer than standard, almost as long as long and have flank drive plus...

Snap-On did offer their OEXL/M wrenches with FD+ for a little while then stopped.

MAC and Cornwell also sell extra longs [very similar to Snap-On "long"]. If you dont mind imports Toptul also has extra longs for about 1/5 what the trucks want. Personally i've got both the MAC and SO. The MACs suffer from a beam thats a bit on the narrow side but otherwise are nice. Snap-On is your normal wide beam but incredibly thin [helps in tight spots]. The OEXLM wrenches ending in an A were superior to the newer B style in my opinion. The ends are about the same size but the A has a beam thickness similar to Armstrong wrenches which is a good compromise between clearance and comfort.

Matco does sell them too,I have a Matco 13mm extra long combo wrench. One thing I don't about Snap On wrenches is that they hurt my hand, corners of handle of the wrench are too pointy and this is with the smaller sized wrenches.I do break one rule with wrenches and say it is not tob done this way, hook the box end of a bigger combination wrench into the open end of a combo wrench for extra leverage breaking loose a nut or bolt.

How often do you use the open end?

I use it rarely.

For long wrenches I like the zero offset boxed end sets. An 18mm there runs about 15 inches depending on brand.

Sorry for interrupting the thread, but what is considered flank drive plus? I just have no idea lol I'm sure it's very simple

FWIW I have mostly Matco "Long" wrenches (i.e. MCXL16M2) and i am slowly picking up Snap-On FD+'s. What I have found is a "normal" SO wrench (i.e. SOEXM16) is roughly the same length as a "long" Matco.

That make sense?

My second favorite long wrenches after me Blackhawk combos are double-box end metric. Genius makes them and sold through various discount sites. Good grip and control on jobs such as brake caliper bracket bolts and driveshaft fasteners.
