Hi all, I've posted a few times before, but I've never introduced myself or my garage. My name is Bucktruck (Jim) and my garage started out as a 25x20, hundred year old shed that I started rebuilding about a year ago.

It is now a 32x20 fully insulated garage that I rebuilt, literally stick by stick. It still maintains the exterior patina that both myself and my neighbors hoped to keep, but will now function as my car cave and occasional machine shop.

A couple of pics from the same perspective, taken about 8 months apart:

Be sure to post up some of the work your doing for all of us to see the Progress...

I've actually got a write up of the project in Word form (with lots of pictures) that documents everything from start to where it is now. Perhaps I'll start adding some pics to this thread and share with everyone how I went about this now year long project.

Welcome, Bucktruck.

What did you do with the old siding, the "patina" as you call it. I see that the bottom several inches of some of it is moth eaten, or microbe eaten, just like some sections of my T1-11-clad garage. Did you keep it, or replace some or all of it? Did you also have to replace the sill plate?

I kept all of the old siding when I pulled it off, cut off the rotted portions, and reused what I could. Originally, I was going to install new siding, but many of my neighbors told me how much they liked the "old barn" look, so I kept the outside original looking.

And yes, I did have to replace some of the sill plates, but most of the rot was concentrated in the corners, so it wasn't too bad of a project. Besides, I put in all new 2x6 studs, so the sill plates were easy peasy.
