Hello all,

found a link to this site on www.v6z24.com

Great site

my Garage is a small 2 car attached. its not much, but it keeps me out of the weather and gives me a place to hide from the wife :p

its in a constant state of change considering i use it as 1)a place to work on my 1980 chevy LUV that i am attempting to resto (you can see it in the pic) 2) a wood shop when needed 3) a welding/metal shop. and a place to store all the "useless" **** (wife is a worst packrat than ANY gearhead)

garage.jpg

I have had to redo ALOT of the wiring in it. when we moved in it had 1 110v plug on the back wall and 1 single pole light in the very center and that was it :wtf:
yeah that aint gonna work. ive added some better lighting and at least 2 plugs on each wall. i still do not have 220v so to run the arc welder i cut a hole in the wall and ran the plug in the kitchen behind the stove. so in order to weld i have to go in the house, pull the stove out, plug the welder in, then hope im finished b4 she starts dinner.
Hell hath no fury like a woman who has waited for a pot of water to boil only to relize that she has no power :D

future upgrades i want to do is; insulate and drywall, get a real heater. i have a old potbelly wood stove someone gave me i just gotta go get it. run better power. and redo the floor (painted concret right now...any suggestions)
of course all this comes after i build a addition on the house next spring. cant do much right now b/c i am serving in Iraq but im almost done and on the way home :rocker: :D

sorry for the long post, see yall around

my dads got an ol' arc welder in the shed and last summer i wanted to use it to build a go kart frame but no 220v plug anywhere but behind the washer + dryer and in the kitchen.....and i thought about doing something like that, but i doubt its easy to find an extention cord long enough to do that, but its the thought that counts, right? LOL

you could build a extension cord.....get some heavy guage 3 wire cable, a female 220 outlet and a male 220 plug. just remeber w/ 220 you have 2 "hot" wires and 1 ground and make sure you get the wires on the right terminals.

we have one of these "extension" cords over here we use in the shop on one of the arc welders for when we have to weld outside of the bunker.

you may have to run the amps a little higher than normal due to the incoming voltage drop from the resistance. but unless you are welding REALLY thick steel (like 3/8 or thicker) it shouldnt be a problem.

Thanks for serving our country!

My garage was in the same state yours is. 1 outlet, single pole lighting (1 60 watt bulb, ahahaha), un painted sheetrock. Good times! After about 6 months of on and off work, i know have power, painted walls, and good lighting!

hey thanks cleoent. :D

I'll have to see if i can find a pic of my "garage" that we have over here.
its a old concrete Iraqi airplane hanger that is open on both ends. we do most of the heavy welding outside so we can use the 7.5 ton crane to move sheets of armor plate.

i build alot of the stuff that helps to keep our boys and girls outside the wire on the road safe, if you see a pic of a army truck that looks like it rolled out of sanford and sons shop....i just may have had a hand in it :lol_hitti

we try to do most the smaller stuff inside but its like a damn wind tunnel....real fun to TIG or MIG weld in

I second that.

Hey larphead, you gotta post some pics of the military garages over there. I'm dying to see the humvee pit crews and their work.

I saw pictures on the net somewhere of guys marking Humvee armor plating out of scrap sheets of steel. Whatever it takes to stay safe...

im kidding....i love our chopper pilots...even when they do wake me up at 4 am

Hey, man! Good to see a guy with a garage as small and dirty as mine. Plenty going on in there though!

Get a wiring book from your local hardware or home store. Running 220 is not that hard, you just need some guidelines.

Thanks for going to the big sandbox and doing the dirty work for us! Be safe.

I would have second that but Luke beat me to it. I would like to Thank You. Stay safe over there, I lost a co-worker last fall in Iraq and it still bothers me.
