Huh, to bad they don't do that here in the states.

Speaking of Home Depot....

I was there yesterday getting a few odds and ends. I asked a salesperson where the pegboard was (nowhere near the pegboard hardware), and he referred me to the shelving/storage area - at the other end of the store. Well, I had just gotten to the shevling/storage area and he comes running down the aisle toward me, apologizing profusely. He had directed me to the wrong area and the pegboard was actually at the other end of the store in millwork. I was flabbergasted! A Home Depot employee that actually went out of their way to help a customer find something! :headscrat

I got a lot of exercise that day.:bounce

Haha yeah Home depot tends to piss me off. Besides the whole china/husky "thing," They dont hire full time, and they dont hire minors. This means two things, and I know its going to sound stuck up but Whatever. Very few of thier employees know anything at my store. Out of the whole store, I can think of two guys know can help you at my store. One is this crabby Older guy who works in electrical. He knows his stuff, and he can always answer my questions, but hes not there too often, at least when I am. Then there is this guy who works in plumbing. I guess he was a plumber because I could go into the plumbing Isle over the summer when we were running out air lines, and tell him what I needed, without explaining, and hed pull it right off the rack without even looking, and give me tips and stuff. Two great guys, but for everything else in the store, your on your own. HD is only like 3 blocks away on the other side of the tracks from my house so it would be easy to work there, but they dont hire minors. Id enjoy working there because its an easy kinda job and Id run into people I know and hopefully be able to help people here and there.

I never really go to the home depots around here, people there seem generally really useless

I worked there when it was just a few years old, and most of us were full-time, there was no tests (psychological or drug), the manager went out drinking with us on Friday nights, and the stock was splitting every 6 months. We were all like a big family.

With the stock purchasing program, lotsa blue collar millionaires were made back then. Being 21 years old, I chose to invest in beer... Idiot.:(

Those two guys were probably there when I was... they are probably both millionaires... And they care about the company like we all did, because the company cared about us.

I go to Lowes now.

I can't say i'm too dissatisfied with my local HD. It seems like alot of the people working in the isles are old retired guys. At the same time the kids they have at customer service don't know their *** from their elbow... this is a good thing because they never question returns or warranty stuff

Admit it. You want the job so you can secretly buy Chusky stuff for a big discount.

Sometimes, if you're really lucky, you'll find a ********* who works there. There's a nice one at the HD near me.

Jim, you should just move to China and work in a sweatshop tool factory. Then you can get a discount on all the Chinese tools.

You HAMB-ers dont know this story, but I got a 10% discount at sears which was totally random, and we think its because the guy behind the counter liked me :headscrat

one of my friends worked at home depot for a summer and they DO NOT give employees discounts on merchandice citing that there prices are so low and there benifits were so good they shouldn't have to give employees a discount.

What kinda benefits could they possibly give you that would be better than a merchandise discount? :D

I used to work for Home Despot, I don't shop there anymore, a rotten company to work for. As for discounts, once in a blue moon you might get the big employee 10% discount! Dont ch know you could have a field day with such a steep discount, where in the world would a person ever get a better deal? As for closeouts, floor models etc.. you may or may not get a good deal. Go to Lowes, they cannot be a worse outfit than HD. The Depot BLOWS!

A good friend of mine is an info dude at Lowes, and he says they are a great place to work for. Must be because I go in good bit, and the same people have been working there for years. Every so often I trapse in the HD, and everybody there is pissed off, and never have seen a same face twice. PLus I heard some of their business tactics are downright deplorable.

Over all I still lament for a good old for-goodness-sake hardware store though. Nothing will ever beat them.

Usually, they run the other way when they see a customer coming.

I bought a Snowbear snow plow from my local HD this winter. It took four trips to the store to find someone who even knew they sold plows. It was too good a deal so I stuck it out until I found the right guy to talk to.Then they lost half the parts and Snowbear had to ship them from Canada.

CruZer: Yup, definitely the same half assed outfit I used to work for! I could do match and raise you stories about the stupidity that went on in the store I worked for all day long!
