In my case,it's a mixed bag.I need a couple of new batteries, that's the good part. Now for the bad-I'll have to get 1 new 120 volt charger and 1 12 volt car charger.I'll bet it's going to cost about $400 to change over.

When my cordless drill batteries went to **** on me, i looked at the replacement cost and it blew me away. So I bought a cordless impact and just share the batteries. Ill probably do that when these batteries go, because the dewalt 18v line is second to none. Unbelievable

Does this mean the "normal" batteries will now be less expensive?

Well, it was a thought...

I like that they're bringing that technology to the market, I'm sure it will be welcomed.

The cost to upgrade your tools will be the determining factor, as mentioned before.

I've quit buying new batteries, since discovering www.voltmanbatteries.com For $35, they'll rebuild your 18v battery and ship it back to you (you pay shipping to them) turn around is about 2 weeks. I had 2 of my DeWalts done and one of Dad's Milwaukee batteries rebuilt this past time, and they're noticeably better than the factory offerings.

*edit*
It looks like the price has gone up since I last used them to $50, and now they're offering a NiMh rebuild for $100 on a 18V battery. Pretty darn cool!

Ryobi is doing the same thing - new 18V Li-Ion batteries that are backwards compatible with the entire One+ 18V line...
