Hey all. I'm in South Carolina. Joe Piro is not my real name. I'll sign posts as Richard.
I am a mechanical engineer and now I teach at the University of South Carolina. I start to teach a face-to-face class on Monday (15 March) (and I have had two shots) after teaching exclusively online for a year. The students and I are both ready to go back.
I am in the process of re-establishing my tool inventory after a major loss in 2013.
Fortunately my Snap-on's were in a safe location at the time. However I need a lot of other stuff.
I have been lurking and reading posts on Garage Journal now for about a month.
You all have taught me so much, but especially to respect even old and under appreciated tools. As a direct result of what you have taught me, I am Evapo-Rust'ing my raised panel U.S.A made Craftsman and some old Armstrong and Williams wrenches that were in a fire. There are even other brands that I inherited from my father that I thought were insignificant and now find interesting.
And as far as new wrenches are concerned I have learned that there are a variety of top quality tool brands as well as a huge variety of pretty good ones.
I already posted a vintage Facom tool chest that I just bought for all the new stuff.
Please offer your advice as I post "too long in Evapo-Rust?" How do you shop? Do you send stuff back?" "Where to buy Japanese tools?" etc.
I really appreciate your being here. I can tell from posts that go back to at least 2006 that there is a lot of experience and wisdom here.
Thanks,
Richard
