Nice find! I have a similar top that's gonna need jus a bit of TLC too. Take ur time n do er right, shud look good! I've been looking around and thinking of some ways to try and get the old wrinkle texture on these and still match the old craftsman colors.
Hey, I think I may be able to help you out. Now, my box is the only one I have seen in person and I only have a small spot of original paint left on it, but it looks to be a hammered texture. If so, there is no need to do anything special to get the texture. Both Rust-Oleum and Hammerite offer hammered texture paints in both rattle can and buckets. I couldnt tell you which is better or what the difference if any is. However the Rust-Oleum you can go to Walmart for about $6 for a spray can. They have had it in stock at 3 different Walmarts in my area in multiple colors. The Hammerite will likely need to be ordered and is very pricey, if you're buying from amazon its about $20 for a spray can. I'll be going with the Rust-Oleum lol. I dont know how a guy would go about getting a perfect color match. But they definitely have some nice looking silver/gray colors.
And I plan to do a really nice job on it as this is my only bigger tool chest and I want it to be a nice piece.
