So a friend of mine calls me...
Needs my Pickup and a strong arm, to clear a widows garage, but I get to keep anything I like.

Here is my find.
A complete NuArc SST1418 photo enlarger...

Not really sure what it does and many of the actual parts I will sell anything that is worth anything useful.
But the support structure/Table is my focus.

Its about 36"T X 24"W X 60"L, and very beefy... maybe 150lb and is made of welded Aluminum extrusion and heavy steel lower frame.

What is VERY interesting is the travel slides...
A little rusty, but work smoothly... you turn the two handles and the pieces move along the bedways.

I am thinking Welding table?
Need to make it taller for me, but attaching a plate to each slide I could wind them open and put a piece in the center to make a longer table when needed... kinda like a Dining Table extension?
Anyone have any gem ideas????

Huh.....ya don't find these very often anymore. Outdated camera equipment, that link to Ebay wants $1200,WOW!
I work in a printshop and several years ago they just put cameras bigger than this in the dumpster.

Turned many a piece of clip-art into negatives with one just like that. Then burned many plates from them. Now they are loved no more. Just make plates straight from computers. Or did before I retired. lol

Yup, there have been a number of them for sale... nobody wants or needs them, even if this one was functional.

Yes, The screws would be protected by the table surface.

Keep the ideas coming!

I could see making a nice powered track cutter for a torch if one had the space and need.

I would think the bed from a process camera would be too low for a welding table.
I never used a NuArc but I did spend a fair amount of time looking through both horizontal and vertical process cameras.....verticals were a real PITA.

You are correct Mike, its too low.
I have one of those portable welding tables, but it is not big, or sturdy enough for what I need.

Need a welding and metal work bench, and was hoping someone would come up with some stunning idea!

It will need to be on wheels, so adding some 4x6 to each end and then some 6" casters would bring it up a bit(12" at least).

As far as the top goes, I noticed that the hand wheels are above the normal table surface, so that needs consideration.
The idea of having the surfaces sliding sounded like it might add some flexibility/length when I need it, but maybe its just gonna be a pain.

Need a place to mount my HF combo machine, so maybe that would go on one end to get it off my other bench.

Maybe mounting that across the handle end would allow me to reach under to wind the handles...

What about attaching an arm to the mechanism for making long cuts with a plasma cutter?

Need to start looking for top material... what should I be looking at in thickness?

For a top I would hunt down some quarter inch steel plate or thicker depending on what you find first or cheapest. Or to save money you could use some thick plywood and cover it with sheet metal, but there are some draw backs this way.

I would want to leave some slots in the table top so you could run bolt to the moving plates. Then up through the table top through some angle iron. This way you could have some sliding jaws to use as a vise. A smaller example of this would be like the vise on a 4x6 horizontal bandsaw.

http://forum.longevity-inc.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=7073&d=1365438044 you would have a lot more adjustability and two or more moving angle iron jaws
