Finger thingy is to hold the polishing compound. Daughter just graduated from dental hygienist school.

Nice. Those tools are bad ***. I asked the same thing, but they didn't have any. Maybe I should go to the dentist more.

Along the same line, the girlie was a nurse (well, is, but doesn't work as one anymore) and she told me that in some hospitals now when they give you sutures they don't even bother to autoclave the hemostats because apparently even when properly autoclaved the risk of subsequent infection is statistically significant between when new instruments are used and when autoclaved ones are used. So next time you get stitched up ask, if they're going to throw them out anyway they might as well end up in your toolbox.

Unfortunately she'd only saved two pair (different shapes) so I didn't get to steal any from her...

I have some that I got from my periodontist. He gave them to me but they were not exactly free. I use them from time to time. Not really as useful as I thought they would be but handy when you need them. My problem is that I use them so infrequently I don't remember I have them when I need them.

Did the same about a year ago. The hygienist said she would call me after my appt. if they had any. She called and I only got 3 but, free is good. I've used them and it's been a year so I've got to remember to ask next time I go. Me and my insurance have given them enough money so, it doesn't hurt to ask.

I have not asked my hygentist yet but I think they must send them out for cleaning. Whenever I go they come in a plastic container like a dishwasher silver wear holder that is closed on 4 sides and the utensils are sealed in a bag.

I will have to ask next time.

My wife is a hygienist and brings these home when the office buys new sets. I have half a shoebox full of these tools and use them all the time. I gave a bunch to my dad brother and co-workers. And, as stated, the HF picks are junk in comparison.
