where do I start. 6 years ago I bought a F. Lorch toolroom lathe from Germany. it was a MESS. in the last 6 years its had periods in storage, times of major restoration, and a lot of money spent on it. its a plain turning lathe, which means a modular system, and it seemed an ideal base to build a precision machine for building clocks, etc on.

Well... 6 years on, its almost ready to assemble for the last time. so far I really only have pictures of it semi assembled, but they may interest anyway..

the motor is three phase. it runs through a VFD, and the rest is flat belt drive. I eventually hope to build a rose engine or ornamental turning lathe from it, (or around it) so it will be a project for a long time to come I think

Very nice. :) I like the fast and loose yoke shift assembly. Why three pulleys there though? Any more photo's of those bearing hangers, and are those original or modern?

the three pulleys are for reverse and forward. the bearing hangers are probably 1930's the same as the lathe. the bigger pulley is for PTO to a wheel cutter etc. one day, and the cones run to the lathe.

some more pictures of the shaft assembly, I picked it up on ebay and did some work on it, and added some pulleys etc.

I do like that shaft assembly and hangers. :) Getting hold of the lineshafting gear seems to be harder than getting hold of the actual machinery itself, these days. Centre pulley fixed and outer two loose, I take it? Had a numpty moment when I was looking at it earlier, and the penny just wouldn't drop. :D Keep us updated with your progress. :)
