I took a look at this Swedish anvil earlier today. It has seen better days, with the sides and base pretty badly nicked and peened, along with the face beaten pretty hard with rough edges. Have been looking for an anvil for several years, but do not know if this is the right one, or what to offer for it. Could not find any markings as to weight, but picked it up and figure it is 125 - 150 lbs. Also included a pic of some of his accessory tools that may be available for extra money.

Can't really tell from the middle photo , but it looks like its had some pretty honest use. I think any anvil that has seen years of use will have some nicks to the face and side. Did the seller give you a price on it ? Offer him a couple hundred , that would be less than the average 2-3 bucks a pound. I've seen anvils in much worse shape sell for stupid high prices , but that was at auctions.

That one looks in real good shape. That looks to be just common wear with years of use.

Thanks for the replies everyone, I was thinking of offering him $200 for the anvil and tools. Cannot afford to pay top dollar and prices for all types of things are pretty depressed currently here in Michigan.

Well, I purchased the anvil! It turned out to be a 250 pounder, instead of 125-150 as originally estimated when I lifted it previously. I worked out a deal with the seller to get the anvil, all the tools shown in the one picture, including the roller stand at the left edge, and two machine vices that were on the floor, for a total cost of $275. He was very kind to let it go for that amount.

That's definitely a "you ****" price. The anvils I've seen at auction are WAY worse than that one and they rarely go for under $300.

Kind ?! You basically paid 1.10 a lb for the anvil which is BELOW the LOW end for anvil prices and got the rest of the tools for free ! Yes you **** !! Nice score !
