Hi fellow GJ'ers. I'm looking for a specialty bolt, one that will screw into a 2x4 with a portion that sticks out with machine treads that I can use for window protection. Any body have any ideas?

If you're going to leave them in the wall all year round, I recommend stainless, and a rubber cap to protect the threads. Otherwise you might not even be able to thread the wingnuts on when you need them.

Go the opposite way.. Use a EZ lok anchor. that way its flush when you dont have anything screwed into it. Much better than a lag screw/stud thingy.

We always referred to these as "Hanger Bolts", they have several applications when you are dealing with woodn boats and ships.
