What do you guys think? I've been looking all over CL trying to find a good, older comp. Most of them around here sell for big bucks with all the industry around Tulsa & what not. Im so damn tired of listening to my POS oilless/gutless craftsman I could vomit. :puke:

Have a look at this one & tell me what you think:

Looks pretty oldschool. Wonder how hard it would be to find parts?

I would snag it if it still works. Old compressors like that are bullet proof... usually...

Well I emailed the seller this AM. It's 3 phase. Just my luck. Im gonna offer him $175 for it. If I can get it for $175 it would be worth cleaning it up, doing a tune up & locating a single phase motor or a rotary phase converter.

Looks like a stout old comp. But looks can be deceiving.

Its not uncommon for those older motors to offer both single and three phase wiring diagrams. I cant really make out their picture but i wouldnt count that motor out yet.

Spin it over a few times by hand moving the crank pulley back and forth and listen for any connecting rod knocking.

I get the tank pressure tested if you do buy it. We don't want you to be the topic of a new thread if it's lost it's integrity. Previous owner could have left it full of water for years.

I don't think its electrically possible to have a motor that is convertible between single and three phase. Electrically the windings are connections are very different, single phase of that size has capacitors which a three phase does not, and start cap cut out centrifugal switch, which a three phase does not.

Multiple voltages, yes, multiple phases, no.

Thanks guys. Im gonna pass on it. Too much trouble to drive up there, load it up & drop $175 on a comp. I can't even use.

Gonna keep looking for a single phase unit closer to home.
