Looking at a Craftsman box, is the price right?

Was browsing Craigslist when I stumbled upon a Craftsman box that seems to be a good size for my job. Guy wants $800 for it which sorta seems high to me, so I figured I'd ask the pros here. What would you fellas pay for this thing?

Are these things good enough quality for everyday use? Am I better off buying a new HF box?

Thanks!

If you haven't already done so, drop by your local HF store and slide the drawers on the US General 44 inch box and see how you like it. As you probably already know, HF sells a matching top box.
I have one of the bottom rollaway boxes and consider it to be of better quality than just about any Craftsman or big box store brands. IMHO, it is the best bang for the buck. BTW, their "44" inch box is actually 42 inches wide. (disclaimer... I am a hobbyist and not a professional mechanic)

Well that does have the mid drawer. I have the top chest and it has friction slides. I believe that set up might all be friction slides maybe? IMO I would go maybe $450 $500. For $800 you can get brand new upper and lower HF 44s.

it may be worth it if it is a USA box, because they tend to be the older ones. If there is a square around the word Craftsman, I would check to see the USA stamp.

Either way, I think the HF 44 is a better value than any Craftsman box (I own a Craftsman box)

That would be a perfect box for the average diy'r but not for that price. $400 would be tops if it's clean.

Are they ball bearing or friction slides? Either way I wouldn't bother at $800, better off getting the hf 44 top and bottom and calling it a day. At full price you would be around $700, if you get them on sale you should be able to squeak under $650. Without taxes mind you.

I got a 20+ year old friction slide version of the bottom box you posted that I got with a 70's cman 26" top box and a ******** side tray for $100 last year. It is a fine box but I would much rather have the HF 44 if I had the option. If they are ball bearing slides in the one you posted, I wouldn't pay anymore than $400 for it. If they are friction slides, I wouldn't even bother.

The HF 56" is on sale for $ 699.99...

The 44" Set is a good buy, too...

That set is way over priced...

I guess I was even high on price. I thought that mid box was worth alittle something. If not looking at this set up to match to another then yes HF is way to go. I've see them around me going for about $350 $450 minus mid box.

I have that setup in black but ball bearing grip latch. Bought it new minus the seperate full width drawer. Paid less than 700 out the door with uncle sams cut. Its not a snap on but its far superior to the harbor freights every holds so high. The drawers are smooth as silk and do not twist. It also has an excellent finish. Use it every day professionally for 2 years now and still good as new.

Looks like a nice box..
Price is too steep.
Box is only 18" deep.
With center section, the top is tooo tall for most of us.
Ok for home use.
When I see those 18" deep stacks; I picture them best used for lighter tools, and secured to a wall, with the castors removed to lower the height and stabilize the box..

800 is way to much by about half. Around here older friction slide truck brand stacks
( most common is Mac ) can be had fairly regularly in the 500 and less range

I would love to be in an areawith cheap mac and snap on boxes. Our craigslist is full of smashed up rusty snap on boxes with misc junk filling the drawers usually bolts and nuts and old plug wires for $2500 +. I think used go in at 450 and everyone gets a fair deal.

Price is way too high. For that I'd look for something wider & deeper then buy a top later on. Regardless of the width I can't tell you how much nicer a deep drawer is. You can get the hf mentioned above. I have seen the international vrb5610 at that price online with a free top & side box. For a couple hundred more the tool vault with a ss top from strictly toolboxes.

Craftsman had the stainless version of that set with griplatch sliders for $799 new over the holidays, If you factor in new prices you should be able to buy this for $500 or so.
