Hey all,

Found a Dayton 1Z707(Y) 8 inch 3/4 hp bench grinder on the Facebook, not a whole lot of data out there other than Dayton makes good stuff or from what I gather puts their name on good stuff.
I am looking for a bench grinder I can mount a buffing and wire wheel on, would this make a good candidate for that as well? They are asking $100, it's pretty dirty and could use a restore which is perfect for me anyway. Just figured I'd ask the pros.

Thanks,Dayton.jpeg

That's feedback I understand! Thanks, I will try to snag it quickly, I was holding out for a Baldor but haven't seen one for a "deal" yet.

I had one. It's a well made grinder and well worth the C note. The only problem I had with mine was that the strong torque would cause the whole tool to rotate clockwise.

It should be noted that this problem wouldn't have manifested if the grinder stand had been bolted to the floor rather than a mounted on a
16.5" truck wheel filled with concrete.

Good to know. This one is bolted to a pretty substantial stand, maybe to much but after your comment maybe not.

I have its twin with slightly older badging. I put a multi-tool belt grinder conversion in it and have used it daily for at least 5 years now. It has performed flawlessly for me. I believe they were made in Taiwan by that point but I've never found definitive proof when they begun to be imported. I say if it turns smoothly and there's no notable wobble of the wheels, buy it and use it.

Picked it up today, guy took $80 for it. Starts up quick with no vibrations or anything, I think it was a good buy.IMG_5807.jpeg

My theory is that when they got rid of the platform the power switch sat on, they went to Taiwan like this one.
