Looking at a used lathe

I am going to look at a 14-1/2" South Bend lathe Saturday. I know the guy personally so I kind of believe what he is telling me that it has had little use. He wants $1000.00 for it and all the tooling he has. Is this a good deal if in fact it is what he says it is? I have a mini-lathe at home now so I am familiar with checking how to check for gib wear and other areas of concern. He did tell me it needs a new half nut. Are these available? Opinions and comments appreciated.
