Looking at table saw options

I've been researching my options for replacing my benchtop table saw. I was surprised to read that many folks say the cabinet saws have less of a foot print than contractor saws. I've been looking at craftsman 315 and 113 saws given their availability and price. Came a cross this unisaw (paralok fence). Guy is asking $500. Only a 1.5 horse. Would be a bit of work to move I'm guessing. Worth the $500? Maybe 350$ given its low hp and no bessiemer fence? Or should I stick to looking at contractor saws?

Which kind of saw is really up to you. There are some very nice work table extension plans for contractor saws on YouTube, but they take up a lot of space.

$350 still might be a bit high with the smaller motor and no Biesemeyer fence.

Just my two cents.. (1) First you start saving your money, (2) when you have enough saved then you save some more for any extra things that you might need ie. shipping costs etc. (3) pull down your pants and scream as loud as you can because it hurts paying out the wazoo. (4) you will never feel any more pain because you bought the perfect machine that (A) will last you a lifetime and (b) no job will never be to big.

Example of a fantastic machine in your area for sale:

Mind you this is just my two cents if you do not have the space or the money then keep looking for a smaller cheaper machine.

1.5 would have been enough hp for me, I wasn't sure what that did to its value, I know many people want 3-5. I'm working out of 1/2 a 2 stall garage, so any whale of a saw is out of the question.

1.5 horse on a ten inch blade is plenty. Plus it's likely/possible that Unisaw's motor was an older repulsion motor which are designed for providing torque at startup.

Unless you've got some huge project that requires ripping 3" oak I really don't see anyone "needing" 3 horse, let alone 5.
