so i talked to the guy today and i'm going to look at it tomorrow. supposed to run and work good. i'd be trading a craftsman oil less 30 gallon for it. says he doesn't need a big compressor anymore. what should i be looking for? all the info i have is that it's a charge air 5hp 60 gal unit.

Wow, you've convinced someone to take in trade an oil-less compressor for a 5 HP/60 gal 240v compressor ??!!?? You should be selling snow to Eskimo's!!

RUN, don't walk to go grab that compressor swap.

Make sure you have the 5 HP/60 gal cycle through a couple tanks of air. Drain down all the pressure and see how quick it fills up to say 140 psi, or whatever the regulator is set to cutoff.

Also, drain out water from bottom and see what it looks like. Open up the oil fill hole and stick something in there to see what oil looks like. Good luck.

P.S. Since guy is feeling so charitable, have him give you the wiring that goes to compressor and heck the breaker in electrical panel if you can !! :D

Listen to it fill from empty, listen for any knocing or other bad mechanical noises that would indicate a problem.
Water drain tank to see if previous owner kept it drained regularly (would indicate it was well taken care of).
Check oil and level, same reason as above.
Check flywheel for runout to indicate that it may have been dropped at some point in time.
Pretty simple compressor, probably something like 10cfm @ 90psi, your basic DIY grade 60gal.
If you want to get real **** it should take ~5min to fill from 0psig to 130psig

Hope it works out well:beer:
