Need a little upgrade on my air volume and found a used Kobalt model K7045V 3.5HP 45 gal tank 10 cfm @ 90psi (prefect for my needs volume wise). Motor and tank in good shape but the guy says the pump "blows some oil" and "probably needs rings".

Found the parts breakdown and the ring set is only in the $12 range here http://www.mastertoolrepair.com/kobalt-parts-k7045v-p-16196.html

Anybody have/had one of these? If it is just rings, which I'm sure will involve misc seals/gaskets etc, is it worth repairing or are they throw away pumps?

I'll probably trade something for it so all I'll have invested is my time and gas to go and get it.

The only 2 times I have ever dealt with a compressor that was "blowing some oil" was one had been on its side and the other was overfilled.

Talk to me guys.......worth lugging the thing home or will I just have a used tank and motor?

If the price reflects the value of a used one, minus the value of the parts and your time to restore it to proper working condition, why not?

Gotcha........but I was more looking to find out if the pump is worth repairing or is it just a throwaway. I know it's a sight unseen kinda thing.............just wondering if anyone else has ever had one of these apart.......are they prone to self destruct etc.
