I'm looking for 1/4" hex shank "nut driver" or "socket" bits that have the detent on them...you know, the "cut" mark on the corners of the shank, like most 1/4" hex screwdriver bits have. For some reason it seems all the nut-driver/socket style bits I find are smooth shanked and thus work only with magnetic bit holders. I need nut driver bits that work with a detent clip. Here's a set, but with those smooth shanks I don't want:

As B.O. would say, "Let me be clear."

DO NOT want these "power" types with the extended shank for use in a drill driver:

DO NOT want any more of these smooth shank ones:

Shank should look like this, with the detents/indents on the ridges...except I need nut driver bit, not a screwdriver bit:

Have never been able to find them. Perhaps they are not made?

You can use them, just take a plastic sandwich bag and put it between the bit and the holder. The plastic will lock the bit in and it will take pliers to get it out.

try this website: www.mcfeelys.com They sell these types of bits and I get catalogs from them.

Searched Mcfeelys, didn't find anything.

The Apex bits we use at work have the small cuts you are looking for. These are designed to catch in the wire ring that is set inside an apex bit holder.

Apex catalog p 27 shows only two SAE sizes with the cuts, and 3 metric sizes. I was looking for a set. And they are magnetic (I'd prefer non magnetic).

Zephyr has just 3 magnetic SAE sizes on page 19.

So, I'm going to conclude these nut driver bits are not made with the clip-style detent, in sets. Looks you can find a particular size here and there, but no sets.

So, if I want a set, looks like I'll be making my own... or taking the easy route which is to use a magnetic driver, not clip.
