Not bolted down here. Don't really find it necessary unless you start playing around with shimming.

I bought mine through Best Buy Auto Equipment. I was cheap and didn't want to pay state tax at asedeals.

Do most people bolt their four post lifts to the floor?

I bolted one lift but not the other as it gets moved over to another bay every once in while with the casters..

No problems not bolted, and it's had all kinds of cars and done all kinds of work on it..

I wasn't going to bolt mine down until I was driving on slowly with a FWD car that has a grabby clutch, and it moved the lift. Didn't hurt anything, just scared the **** out of me

I have a Stinger Lift by AXE. It is the ST model. I've had it for around 10-11 years. Never had a problem. (Knock on wood.)

Was not a tough decision at all for me. My neighbor has the pp8, and I think it is a bit scary, at least to me. Columns look thin, it seems to sway around a bit, I would not stand or work under it. I think the bendpak is much better in design, the difference is so obvious when you can see both lifts side by side. I would not let the extra price dictate which one I got. He bought his because of cost, all my opinion, good luck with the lift, you will enjoy it.

I am also considering a 4 post lift, but do not want to drill holes in my floor - have any of you considered tying the top of the posts to a nearby wall for added safety?

No need for that, your over thinking it.. Which is easy to do before you actually have one in your possession and start using it.

The BP got it's ALI certification not bolted down.

The bolts are the to keep the lift from moving if hit with a forklift or when driving up on them too fast or with a touchy clutch like mentioned above. Mine has never moved an inch and I've had all kinds of various cars on it, I drive super slow onto it.

4 posts don't just topple, the only failure shown anywhere on the net is from a pulley coming off and the lift had no secondary locks, the company is now out of business, but the same lift is still available from another company.

My BendPak isn't bolted down, either. In fact, the lift is the usual parking space for the Excursion and I've never noticed the lift to slide or move.

It would only happen when 2 wheels are on the lift and 2 wheels on the ground still, and you slammed the brakes while rolling or if in a FWD slammed the gas/let off clutch too hard and it could pull the lift towards the car.

Both scenarios have to be done quite abruptly to move a 2000lb lift..

That's exactly how it happened to me.. fwd car with solid motor mounts and a grabby clutch, and it just slingshotted the lift. doesn't help that the rear wheels were still out the door and on a slight slope, but yeah it can move if you're not careful. :lol_hitti

I think I read on here, someone saying "buy the biggest lift to fit the space." I was sure I was going with the Pro Park 9 Plus, but it's just too wide for the single stall in the three car garage. The runway was going to be right at the edge of one side of the door. I'm sure the 180"+ runway length is the way to go, as I don't want any overhang of the cars. How much space do you need on the sides of the lift to be able to work on the car? Is bigger really better, when it come to lifts?

Forgive my ignorance, but how do you pull the wheels on a lift like that?

Hydro scissor jack. Same way it's done on alignment lifts at tire shops, they usually have two scissor jacks on one lift tho to be even quicker..

I've got an extra-wide lift in front of a single bay 9'w door and it's great, plenty of drive-on room.

The runway is 3ft from the side wall, the column is about 1.5ft away. 3ft is the minimum I would want to the wall, plenty of room for removing tires, doing brakes, and open the door all the way on most vehicles (maybe not on some real long full size 2 door cars?). 4ft would be nicer, especially if you had to pull an axle shaft on a full size truck. I pulled a shaft on my ranger (same length as a mustang) and it was enough room..

Thanks Ket-tek, I figured the lift runway would be about 3-4 ft from the wall. I would have room to move it out further with the casters if needed. That is once the car is on the lift. I just have never seen a lift that close to the wall in person. Sounds kind of tight but still has to be better than laying on the floor.
