Looking for a 1/4" deep metric socket set

Can anyone point me to one? I would normally buy a craftsman set, but they don't seem to have one on their (crappy) website. I don't think HF sells one, either.

I don't mind ordering online, and would prefer not to spend snap-on prices (I was quoted something like $240 from the snap on driver).

Thanks for the help!

Check out Cripe, bought a set for my step-son last summer, forget if they were Armstrong or USA Allen, but I do remember they were USA made and VERY reasonably priced

pricepoint should be a function of how much you need to rely on them

harndess of the metal, the thickness of the OD, and the tru-ness-to fit all matter a bit more in a deep socket if you need to push it to the limits

that being said, for occasional use just about any good usa/industrial brand will work

Try to find NOS at the local hw store...that's what i did.... and if you pick good copies of individual sockets in person you can eliminate some of the vagaries....and even a usa cman set can be more than decent.

also keep in mind that broaching depth and some other design variables may come into play so don't forget to inquire ..esp if buying sight unseen

Gray Pnuematic sockets, Amazon has them. Check out their magnetic deep sockets. Very reasonably priced for the quality.

Carlyle tools from NAPA has a nice set 4-15 with no skips for about 56 bucks. Nice quality and local warranty too.

You guys are great, excellent suggestions! I was already thinking about a koken spark plug socket, so I might pick up the deep set to check it out. i do have a few gearwrench ratcheting wrenches that I love, so those are a good option as well.

Fanboy stuff appears like the flu.:p
If you want the very best get the Koken from Frank.
If you want the best for sane money get the Gearwrench with rails and look for the 2 for one where you buy the metric and get sae for free(actually close to free). They make a fine product. The only ones who say differently never owned any.
They also have mid depth in 1/4 and 3/8 which are a must for todays mechanic.

I must have a few deep 1/4 drive metric sets USA Craftsman to 14m, but not positive. They are good sockets and not worth much. Why not grab something like that on ebay for $10? Heck, I would sell you a set of them plus throw in a blackhawk ratchet for like $20. Why would anyone spend $80 for an SK set?

^^^ I'm with this guy.

For the record, I own a Snap-On set for my 1/4" deep metric sockets. But I just recently purchased Ko-ken "nut grip" sockets for a 1/4" shallow metric set. I've only used them a couple times, but I already like them more than their Snap-On counterparts.

Oh, and did I mention that the Ko-ken stuff was not even half as expensive as the Snap-On set?

The nut grip sockets are really nice. Great for recessed bolts or just ones in crowded spots so you don't lose them somewhere in the depths.

Genius makes really nice 1/4 drive sockets and they go up to 14mm. We've got a set of chrome ones at work that have been seriously abused being beat around on a blue point 1/4 air impact for years and we haven't broken one yet.

From earlier post #13 & 20
Sears has a 9 pc set for $30 China
Sears has a 18 pc set for $27 China
HF has a 10 pc set for $10 China $8 with coupon

People wonder what happened to Sears  :shocking:

OP you have been given some good quality choices reasonable priced.
Which don`t include Sears China or HF

Dang, i have been in the store how many times, and never saw it. thanks for the link.

Good set. They were retired to home use but I never had a problem & the angle from the socket face to the outside is less than craftsman so they're better for shorter fasteners.

Do the newer production Wright sockets have 'normal' retention detents? I've seen some older ones that didn't have detents...

you guys are making this too hard.
it's not really that complicated.
don't waste your time with imported Craftsman. you can get good used US-made Craftsman metric deep-wells on Ebay every day - there was a like-new " -V- " set (with tray) that sold the other day for $32 plus shipping - that's pretty high.
there's a short set on there right now for $8 bucks + shipping (I think it's only like 8mm - 13mm)

but... consider this:
top of the heap:
Snap-on 10-pc 1/4" drive 12-point deep well sockets (with rail)
4mm - 14mm (the 8mm is a Craftsman)
used
$75 + $6 shipping now. 0 bids now. ends Tues. 02/08
http://www.ebay.com/itm/151971772030?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

second week it's been listed - no bids on it last week.

all the other Snap-on 1/4" metric socket sets on Ebay right now (used) are 6-points, and they're most all in the $120-$140 range.

$75 is a great price, and you will thank me later for steering you to the 12-points.

You guys kicked *** with a shitload of recommendations. I probably have more than I know what to do with, lol.

I am leaning towards the ko-ken, mostly 'cause I want to try those out, but that snap on deal that four cycle posted is nice, too. All praise four cycle, king of ebay tool auctions.

I'll post in the new tools arrival thread when I drop on something!
