Looking for a 16mm Hex Bit

A buddy of mine has a Victory Vision motorcycle and needs to remove the front axle which requires a 16mm hex bit. This is an unusual size (I don't have one) most sets go from 14-17mm and skip the in between increments. I know he doesn't have snap-on or mac money to spend on this so recommendations are welcome as to where to get a single bit driver in 1/2" drive. Thanks in advance.

Spinaker01,

At your local Canadian NAPA Auto Parts store, it might stock or can order a 1/2" drive, 16mm impact hex bit socket (the model # is circled in the second picture) with a price of $9.09CA. This price is effective in the Real Deals Catalog on the Canadian NAPA Auto Parts website until March 31. This socket is under the NAPA brand Ultra Pro. I attached 2 screen captures from the current Real Deals Catalog for the Ultra Pro 16mm hex bit impact socket.

I ordered a sunex impact hex when I needed a large one, and was quite happy with them.

5/8" is .625 and 16mm is .629 so that .005 may or maynot kill the fastener.

You can use the external hex on the back side of a sparkplug socket. Just put an extension through the "socket side" and attach to your ratchet.

Here is an example in the attached picture.

If it were me I'd get the gearwrench 1/2 socket set in SAE for like $30 and use the 5/8 like said above. The 5/16, 1/2, 7/16, 5/8, & 3/4 could be used on metric fasteners if needed also. That's not optimal but still the options are nice to have.

If you've got a good hardware source, buy some 16mm nuts and double nut them on a bolt and use a socket on the bolt.

You can also cut off an "L" wrench and press it in a 16mm socket with a thin shim from a soda can and make your own hex socket.

I see you are in Canada. We use 16mm hex bits on our mulchers and have found that Jet makes a high quality one. Must be a jet dealer nearby for you.

Hey all ,thanks for all the quick replies. I think I'll steer him towards the NAPA route. The Ultra Pro stuff is (or was as I remember) pretty good for the price. thanks again guys!
